Welcome to FawnsFoot

The Mississippi River falls towards the gulf just a few miles east of Roxana, Illionois. Somewhere under that current, barred up on a shoal in an eddy of Wood River Creek, maybe, one might find, if she is lucky, a bed of fawnsfoot mussels. Native and wild and surviving. We draw both inspiration and our name from these shells.

Fawnsfoot is a place for educators to reflect upon practice, to collaborate and innovate, to envision – in short, to survive in the thick and muddy current that is today’s educational watershed. Fawnsfoot is space for students to showcase work, to make visible thinking, to both shape and be shaped by today’s educational watershed, one that too often casts learners as passive, one that is often oblivious to the glorious life thriving and surviving in backwater sloughs.
